I've always wondered how it was taught (is it even called that in Britain?) in British schools because here in the states, the British were seen as harsh oppressors of democracy and freedom...how were the Americans viewed as? Was Benedict Arnold seen as a British hero? Asked by Rutgers Student - Sat Aug 22 17:43:19 2009 - - 13 Answers - 0 Comments A. from my experience, we're not taught about it. its definately not taught at primary school (5-11) and in the 3 years of high school when history is compulsary, we aren't taught it either. i am taking history for my GSCE's, and its not part of the course. maybe it varies on the school, but i doubt it, and my school is pretty good anyways. britain has a much longer history than america, and we first and foremost get taught about british history (save for ancient civilisations such as the egyptians.) after that, we're taught about thiings that influenced our country more, such as the world wars (so life of hitler, etc.) i dont know anything about the american revolution, but im gonna guess that it didnt have much effect on british history?… [cont.] Answered by Lolly - Tue Aug 25 20:40:36 2009 How did the British control of the Suez Canal affect history? Q. I need to do a paper on an important event in history and I've chosen the British gaining control of the Suez Canal. How did this affect history? How did it help them control the Raj, China, colonies, did it help them militarily, economically, or in any other way? What were the ramifications in history as whole (outside of how it affected Great Britain)? Thanks in advance. Asked by Eric Cartman - Sat May 2 07:17:00 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. As Gladstone's defence of the Suez Canal shows, such assertion of stability often required establish formal political control of a foreign country or region. In the case of the Suez Canal, Gladstone was forced to stabilise a country shaken by the turbulence caused by Arabi Pasha's nationalists, and hence in July 1882 British troops occupied Alexandria in order to protect the valuable trade link the Suez Canal. The irony of his defence was clear; he had warned in 1875, when Disraeli had bought the shares in the Canal, that it would require such protection. Nevertheless, following the Battle of Tel-el-Kebir, Sir Evelyn Barying was appointed Consul-General of the country. Ever the moral guardian, however, Gladstone asserted that he had acted… [cont.] Answered by Josephine - Sat May 2 08:36:20 2009 What would the british have to do to win the revolutionary war?
Q. To prepare for the war and if we didn't know the outcome, what tactics or strategies would the British need to win the Revolutionary War? Up until then, the biggest problem in war was having enough bodies to outlast the barrage of fighters. So armies went face to face against each other. In the revolutionary war, america knew if they went face to face, they would be defeated. And they were many battles that the british won because they were fought on open plains. But america adapted to the terrain and realized that england outnumbered them. So they hit on the paths, trails, and tight crevices. They attacked brittain from different vantage points, keeping the size of england's millitary out of the picture. But the british didn't realize this, and kept on marching in ranks. Of course, if the war was closer to… [cont.] Answered by Nathan - Sun Nov 23 16:09:29 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "british" Moto2 GP bike to make British debut at Isle of Man TT
