What was the Viking goverment structure within the Danelaw?
Q. Please help!!!

A. While the Danelaw had considerable Norse/Danish influence in terms of culture and language, and in some years was required to pay tribute to Norse kings, the area was under Saxon control for the duration of the Viking Age, expect for a brief 30-year period when it was was ruled by a Norse king. Therefore, Saxon goverment and Saxon law applied in the Danelaw.

Where are Normandy and Danelaw? Are they close together?
Q. (The Vikings) Thanks in advance!!

A. No. Normandy is a province of north-west France. The Danelaw was that part of northern England controlled before the Anglo-Saxon invasion by settlers from Denmark who extracted tribute from the indigenous population.

Is there much Viking blood to be found in England?
Q. Particularly in places where they settled, like Yorkshire and other parts of the Danelaw. Would it be fair to say that the people of those areas are/were more Anglo-Scandinavian than Anglo-Saxon? Thanks

A. Yes, but a lot of English & Celtic blood is found among the Vikings too. DNA analysis have been made on skeletons from Viking tombs. The Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroups found were the same as those found nowadays in Europe, but with a much higher percentage of the now very rare haplogroups I and X. "Haplogroups I and X are each found in only 1% of the modern European population. Haplogroup I has been found in over 10% of the bodies in tested from Viking cemeteries. Other studies also found mtDNA haplogroup X in Anglo-Saxon skeletons, suggesting a possible Germanic origin." A closely related haplogroup X is found on the East coast of the Americas (~20,000 years removed) suggesting some very early European migration to the Americas.… [cont.]

Eggheads, did anyone see it last night?
Q. One question was, "The Danelaw extended from the Thames to which other river?" There was a choice, Dee, Tees and I thought Neve, but can't find a Neve, only Nene. The answer given was Tees In my collection of maps the Danelaw is shown as going from Chester, R.Dee, to the Thames. The Tees is a tiny river way up in Scotland. The Nene is good but in the wrong place according to my maps. Were the Eggheads wrong?

A. CSI: McDonald's' Corporate Minions' Fun-and-Safe Happy Land Definitely. ;) But seriously, CSI: NY is the best. The original lost my respect when Grissom left.
