Old English (Englisc), also called Anglo-Saxon, is an early form of the English language that was spoken and written in parts of what are now England and south-eastern Scotland between at least the mid-5th century and the mid-12th century. What survives through writing represents primarily the literary register of Anglo-Saxon. It is a West Germanic language and is closely related to Old Frisian. It also experienced heavy influence from Old Norse, a member of the related North Germanic group of languages. DevelopmentFurther information: History of the English languageOld English was not static, and its usage covered a period of approximately 700 years – from the Anglo-Saxon migrations that created England in the 5th century to some time after the Norman Conquest of 1066 when the language underwent a dramatic transition. During this early period it assimilated some aspects of the languages with which it came in contact, such as the Celtic languages and the two dialects of Old Norse from the invading Vikings, who occupied and controlled large tracts of land in northern and eastern England, which came to be known as the Danelaw. GNU Free Documentation License How trainable are Old English Sheepdogs and where can I get them? Q. I've always loved Old English Sheepdogs and they are one of the few beeds of dogs I particularly like. I also like grooming and taking care of animals so I know it would be a good pet for me, eventually [not while i'm still in college]. However, could I train them to be a guard dog also? and do they get along with cats? Asked by apple picking - Tue Sep 8 11:24:27 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Guard dog, no, a good dog to have fun with, maybe, it depends on where the dog came from, how good his genetics would be and what kind of time and effort you invested in the dog. Getting along with cats is not a breed issue, it is an individual dog and a training issue. Hope I helped. Q. I am about to change from puppy food to adult food and wanted to know what was an all around good adult food to feed an Old English Bulldog? Is anyone out there familiar with the breed and recommend an adult food good for that breed? thanks! Asked by gettinghitched - Thu Jan 22 21:15:43 2009 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments A. Hi... :) I would feed him a high quality puppy chow (like Merrick, Chicken Soup, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, etc...). You may want to even consider feeding him a large breed puppy food (depending how much his parents weigh/how big you were told he will turn out because I know it varies with Oldes). I would feed puppy food until at least a year though... Answered by *Royal Dachshunds~ - Thu Jan 22 21:46:26 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Old English"
