How come the dad walks the daughter? Could the mom walk the daughter? Asked by Cynthia - Fri Aug 13 17:54:06 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. The exact year of when this tradition started isn't known for sure. The father walks down the daughter because back in the older times the man was the masculine figure in the family that was considered to be the protector and provider. The father walks the daughter down because at the end he has to give the daughter away to another man. Since father's had their daughters live with them until they found a husband for their daughter's, it was a symbol of giving their daughter away to another man so that he could be the protector and provider of her and their future family. Mother's couldn't do it because they weren't known as the protector and provider. Answered by Nessa Jo - Fri Aug 13 18:03:35 2010 How did the tradition of hanging Christmas lights originate? Q.
